A Simple and Humble LUCYBAI passes away - OFS Member

Ms. Lucy D’Souza from Vakola, Andheri, Mumbai passed away peacefully in her home after battling Cancer. surrounded by her loving family on 22nd August 2020 at the age of 75.She leaves behind her brother, sister, nephews, and nieces. She was a spinster and dedicated her life to the Church and consecrated herself in the Order of Secular Franciscans, her love and dedication to OFS were outstanding. She also leaves behind many friars, sisters, and friends whom she cherished over the years of her single-hearted service and dedication. Always known as a sweet and gentle woman who wore a million-dollar smile and ever ready to speak and invite new members to the OFS.

She will be missed forever. Lucybai, lovingly and affectionately addressed by many, was close to the Catholic Church and held on to her Catholic faith with pride and propagated it by her life and example. A simple and humble woman over the years she generously supported the activities of the parish of Vakola of which she was a part, serving in many roles. Her favorite role was to collect SMA masses for the friars at Fatima Friary Kirol, Ghatkopar, Mumbai. She carried on this humble service for almost 40 years with dedication and love towards the friars. She has brought about 25 benefactors to the Province of St. Bonaventure, Maharashtra. ~she would speak about the Capuchins to the rich and middle-class Catholics who were willing to sponsor a seminarian for priestly studies. She would regularly come to Kirol with Masses and contribution from the Benefactors to hand over. She pursued her life-long devotion to St. Francis of Assisi by studying for and being received into the Secular Franciscan Order. Four times a year a recollection for all the OFS members of Mumbai would be conducted at Kirol and she would participate in a big way. She would communicate and encourage the other OFS members to participate and during the meeting privately she speaks about SMA Masses and Sponsors for the seminarians.

She was very proud of her Mangalorean heritage, Lucybai was even more proud of being an OFS Member.

Provincial Minister along with five friars conducted the funeral rite.

She was known for the value of discipline and hard work. She had the gifts of friendliness and simplicity and humility. She genuinely enjoyed the company of OFS members and friars and sought to make them happy, always ready to show her care and compassion to the poor OFS members. It was a mission that she took up promoting OFS and SMA masses and finding sponsors for the `seminarians, which became a new passion for her. In this work, she continued to serve God and St. Francis of Assisi. Even in her suffering, she promised the friars who visited her saying that her brother would continue her mission and that she has already briefed him up about the mission. After faithfully serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for many years, she was called to her eternal home and now she now lives in true freedom in heaven, in the wonderful presence of his Lord and Savior.

We paid our last respect with a heavy heart as we lost our lay collaborator, missioner, Franciscan daughter...we will miss LUCYBAI
