THE WORK OF MEDIATION IN THE SOCIETY OF TODAY

  •    800 years ago, Francis of Assisi undertook a peace mission, which interfered in the Fifth Crusade in Egypt.
  •  friendly encounter between the Christian friar and Sultan Muhammad al-Kāmil opened a door that today brings together all the religions of the world in Assisi.
  •  prophetic bridge, built on the banks of the Nile, makes the city of Francis in modern times has become the "capital of religions": they meet in Assisi to pray and work together for a more just world, Human and peaceful.
  •  The peacemakers do not fall from the sky
  •   Long paths and painful learning processes are often required until a person gradually transforms into a mediator or a mediator.
  •   The life and work of Francis are an illustrative example of this.
  •   His biography teaches that he was a prophet of peace who today admire the religions of the world
  •   dreams of weapons and military splendor.
  •  wants to become a gentleman, have a house full of warriors and belong to the elite of society.
  • To fulfill this dream, he invests a fortune in a horse, shield, sword and armor, and leaves for war against Perugia to realize his ambitious career dreamsPope Alexander III, who invited him to have the opening speech of the Third Council in the Lateran.
  • Two or three years later, around 1182, he wrote the treatise "De bono pacis", being bishop in Assisi.
  •   His work describes eight types of peace found in the Holy Scriptures.
  • The source of all PAX is the unity among divine persons, who wish to include all creatures in their communion and are the source of all harmony.
  • The second peace lies in the last communion between God and man: a union broken by the fall of Adam and restored by Jesus Christ through his birth and death.
  •  His disciples are sent to bring this peace of Christ back to the world.
  •   Bishop Rufino describes natural justice: the basis of a universal peace that unites different kingdoms, religions and races.
  • Without being affected by such visions, the ambitious son of businessman Pietro di Bernardone dreams against his career and great military successes.
  •  However, the battle near the Tiber River becomes a debacle in 1202.
  • Francisco survives the carnage, but is deported to Perugia as a prisoner of war.
  • After a traumatic year in the dungeon of the rival city, the young merchant returns to his hometown, struck by a serious illness
