Capuchin Ashram, Berahampur, Orissa

Berahampur is a city of about 300,000 people. It is a business and trade centre for many small towns and villages. It is an old city and has its own importance and place in Orissa. The diocese is named after the place. There are good number of Catholics and the missionaries are very active. The CM congregation has been the first to evangelise this land. They came as early as 1900 and then onwards the state of Orissa has seen a good work of evangelisation. The Catholics are very strong in their faith here. They have had about 20 Bishops dead and alive. There are many priests and religious from the state of Orissa. Today in India most of the congregations come looking for vocations here.....you can see that the Capuchins has got about 35 brothers in the first three years of Initial formation......
In this formation house they are initiated into the Capuchin way of life for the first year and then following two years they attend a college to pursue their pre-university degree. The students are very talented and good.....learn things very fast too.......
Besides the classes they have manual work too....unfortunately they don't have a big place here......a small little vegetable and flower garden around the house.....they have used every little space for growing vegetables and flowers.....
There are three friars and two post novices who look after the formation of the brothers.....
