Social Centre of Capuchins of Karnataka

The Capuchins have been rendering humanitarian service for nearly 35 years in Belthangady, Mangalore, shimoga and Chikkamangalur of Karnataka to support the deprived, vulnerable segments of the society. one of the most urgent needs of this area is to take care of the differently able/mentally challenged retarded children. mental retardation is a developmental disability that first appears in children under the age of 18. it is an intellectual functioning level that is well below average and significant limitations in daily living skills.
when the capuchins surveyed they came across about 50 special children who are belonging to the poorest families. and these families have requested us to provide the basic training, support and rehabilitation to these vulnerable children. if these children are provided with care and support along with the basic trainings like toilet use, health and hygiene, dress, etiquette, improving health status of these children and some possible training in reading and writing, will surely help them to lead a normal human life being less dependent. The capuchins have planned to support 50 most vulnerable children even though there are many. our immediate concern is to provide care and support these special children who are from poor families as they cannot afford this facility which is far off and economically not feasible.
