Alverna Ashram, Sulthan Batheri,

Alverna friary is about 40 years old and it has served many purposes. Today it is a formation house. Here the students do their college studies for two years. The place is on the highway and surrounded by forest. You can see in the evening wild elephants and other animals roaming freely. The elephants destroy all the crops and fruits, vegetables. There are 23 students One batch is gone for vacation and they will return by end of the month. Three friars are fully engaged in formation. They accompany the students very much. 
 Small chapel for the students and some catholic neighbors come for the daily Mass...

 There are about 5 dogs kept for the purpose of chasing monkeys who come and destroy the fruits and vegetables.....the dogs bark and chase them away....they chased me too as i was going round in the garden...

 They have a diary farm....about 20 cows....milk is distributed to some hotels...in the above small van
 Cowshed....lovely Jersey cows....give good milk....

 students with the help of one worker look after the cows ....milking the cows with machines....


 Brother Pigs....pork is the delicacy in Kerala....
 Hens....special type.....some little income the friars are able to get in order to be self-sufficient...
 I am angry ....you did not come first to picture me.....seems to be saying this brother Pig...

 The green garden....around three acres of land....with bananas and other trees...grass for the cows...

 second year students ...getting ready for the postulancy....good brothers....talented....addressed them and spent some time with them
 The friars who look after the formation....one is absent as he had to leave for some examination...
