Amalaashram, Trichy

Amalaashram Friary.........10 Friars and 7 students.....Parish, shrine and animation center....
It is one of the oldest friaries in Tamilnadu. It served as a Theology house till Francesco came up. This place is on the bank of a River. Catholics frequent this place from all over the diocese to Pray to St. Anthony. The friars are available for the people who come for their spiritual needs. `since the formation house is shifted to Francesco, the province conducts all their animation programs here. They also conduct retreats and seminars for the priests, religious and laity.  They have now postulants and aspirants from the province. They are 7 in all, you can see that the vocations are less now in this part of India.
There are 10 friars in the fraternity among them around 5 are senior friars as it is also home for the senior friars. The others are involved in formation and pastoral activities here and around. The Orients and Postulants are housed here. They have 5 orients and 1 postulant.

 Senior Friars quarters ..........
The shrine.....St. anthony is very popular.....every tuesday....big crowds....tomorrow we are celebrating Eucharist together to conclude  visitation

A Grotto attracts people from all faiths......
Cemetery for Friars......the fraternity prays every monday.......people also join the friars in praying for the deceased friars

The Friars in local chapter this evening.....
I concluded with few points for fraternal living....
UFRA members came to visit me....they shared their joys and sorrows.....they are happy to be part of UFRA but expecting more animation from Friars.....

Recently our friars had some problems from the fundamentalist group of Hindus who objected the annual festal procession. The police had to be called in to settle the matter. These people have been troubling the friars often as the place is well frequented by the Catholics. It is also strategic place as religion is concerned. The friars are dialoguing with the concerned people through peaceful encounters with them.
