Words that Change Life.....Words that Build Life.....

In these years of my priesthood I have come across people telling me that the words of their relatives, family members, friends and people in authority have changed their life positively and negatively. I have also met people who are carrying in their hearts some negative and positive words spoken years ago with positive and negative results and effects experienced in their lives. An instructive and corrective word of parents, teachers and priests is always an occasion to see the brighter side of life. The words are taken as God’s word as they are spoken and give in sense of good. The feeling and emotion behind these golden words is always the good of the person, the future of the person is the top priority in mind when spoken. There are so many great persons in the world who are famous, popular or successful because of those few words of consolation, encouragement and guidance has changed the world for them. They are always grateful and the songs of gratitude are on the lips always because they know the value of those words. These people grow like the trees planted on the bank of the river….they are ever green

There are others who have not taken words of instructions, corrections in a positive sense and have ended up in a negative mode or world. These see the words of the elders not as a stepping stones but stumbling blocks. They keep blaming these good intentioned people for all the failures in life. They carry those words which in themselves are very powerful to change the lives but because they have been spoken by people who are not liked or appreciated by the receiver, the words are termed as “destroyer”. The negative results and effects of this kind attitude is seen by us either in the family, community or society. The best ones in the school and colleges are today on the road begging because they did not want someone to correct them. They went about with the belief and feeling that they were the best and had all the answers….they believed in no one….end results….poverty of everything….

We all know the truth that we cannot touch those precious words spoken by people in authority…we can feel them….but these same words if we allow them to touch our hearts and minds….then there is a sea of change….but the problem is to allow them to touch us…if I am egoistic, self-centered and proud person….then these words don’t even travel around us….they fly off…The wise words of the elders allows us to know that life is short and spend this life with those who value us and value our existence, presence and our very person…..
The feelings and emotions aroused by those precious and wise words are to be expressed, sought clarifications and move on in life….don’t keep them and ponder on them negatively…these words will bring some tears in eyes, some heartaches but the real joy is in accepting them and try to do something and applying them to our life situations.
