Happy Feast of St. Thomas, the Apostle

Today the Church in India celebrates one of her own revered Apostle St. Thomas with religious fervor and devotion. We have belief and tradition that the Apostle landed on the Indian soil and preached the good news which he himself heard from the Lord Jesus. What joy he must have gained in preaching what he saw, touched and experienced to the natives of India who welcomed and accepted the Word of God from his mouth. We all remember St. Thomas for his doubt and bringing the good news and Christianity in India. Thomas was one those apostles who believed strongly in Jesus and committed himself to make Him known to the nook and corners of the Universe He did it with faith which was tested by the Lord. He experienced many hardships, difficulties and problems in preaching the good news and yet he carried on for the Love of his Master and Lord.

No one remains a lifelong doubter once one has seen and experienced. There is a drastic change and much love created in the heart of the doubter. He or she then begins to speak of that experience to those who grope in the darkness and doubt. There are many out there who are anxiously waiting to hear our experience of the Lord so that they too can commit to the Lord in making known His good news.

We all have received the gift of faith. It is not received to be kept under the bushel or pillow but to be shared and spoken of. In humility and honesty we must confess to others that Jesus is the Lord and Master, that he is the giver of new life and light. That Jesus takes us beyond out small world to the bigger world to speak about Him. Jesus gives us the grace to ask for the gift of Faith everyday so that we can overcome many hurdles in our human and spiritual lives.
