We read and hear about house breakings and Robberies. We don’t
feel anything unless we are the victims of it. The pain and loss can be great,
the mental disturbances and the loss of sleep due to shock and the valuables.
And above all when you are a foreigner and lose your valid documents, oh boy
you have it……I was unfortunate one to have been robbed in a train losing
everything that I had…..friars call me now poor…very good and positive
experience….the Lord teaches a great lesson too….you have nothing with you….a
feeling of belonging nowhere…a thought haunts you about the poor ones who have
nothing and yet live their lives with joy and happiness….
You feel abandoned and discarded at these moments….no one to
support and help you out….you cry out in your heart and no one seems to
understand you…..how much you have lost…..the co-passengers don’t bother
because it has not happened to them…..they don’t show any sympathy neither
offer a helping hand to search…..
We take precautions to prevent robberies but you never know who
is that guy who is going to rob you…..in spite of all security that you take
and that is around you….yet you get robbed…..you ask why it has happened to
me…why they did not think of me…..why they have to rob a poor or for that
matter a friar….but question how do they know that you are poor….you cannot be
poor if you travel in freccia rossa….
I don’t wish you this experience for any one….especially
strangers….tourist….the misfortunate ones then go through a period which
disturbs your conscience and the experience starts blaming and holding you
responsible….why did you not take care of your bag?
Being robbed is a positive experience…..it opens a new way of
looking at yourself…..it teaches lessons which you cannot learn in an
University or MBA school……It teaches you to be calm and cool….because you have
lost everything and there is no way you can get back what you have lost…..you
cant overcome and get over the nauseating feeling that just disturbs you
I learnt some few things like:
Never take for granted things while travelling
Keep all your documents on your body and not in the bag
Keep an eye one everyone who is around and who keep coming in
and getting off…
I received a lot of support from the friars from Curia….many
emailed and telephoned to me….they all extended their emotional support….when I
returned all came to console me….what a great feeling of being loved by your
own brothers…..
