Gospel reminds us to be Human

Gospel: Mark 2:23-28
One Sabbath Jesus was going through grainfields. As his disciples walked along with him, they began to pick the heads of grain and crush them in their hands. Then the Pharisees said to Jesus, “Look! they are doing what is forbidden on the Sabbath!”
And he said to them, “Have you never read what David did in his time of need, when he and his companions were very hungry? He went into the house of God when Abiathar was High Priest and ate the bread of offering, which only the priests are allowed to eat, and he also gave some to the men who were with him.” Then Jesus said to them, “The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath. So the Son of Man is Master even of the sabbath.”

The Holy Father just concluded his visits to Sri Lanka and Philipians. What was most striking and outstanding of this visit is: his message of Love and to treat everyone equally. He in his messages trying to communicate that we need to see and experience of Jesus in the needy and the abandoned ones. Today there are institutions and people who are worried about following the laws which is a good thing to do, but at what cost? To neglect and ignore, kill and kidnap in the name of God who gave us the Laws. Is it fair to see a hungry child standing outside your house and crying for Food?

How can one say that one is faithful to God's command. My observance of the laws must enhance and promote humanity and human relationships. Why that little child questioned Pope? Why so much of injustice and inequality? Are the laws not saying anything about feeding and sheltering the poor ones.

Let us use the laws not for our advantage but for the sake of promoting love and compassion. Let our laws bring about harmony and peace. Let us not use these laws for our advantage and to create fear among the people. If the following of God's law does not allow me to see and experience HIM in the others, then we have to question the validity and significance? Let our laws be applied evenly to all, whether rich or poor, black or white, red or brown, because all of us are children of the same GOD.
