Br. Mark presents and invites the General Minister to deliver his talk.
Ø
Delicate reality to touch and many of us are
confronting this reality in your provinces
Ø
Vow of chastity and how to confront this in our
pastoral field and other ministries.
Ø
Vows not optional but precise and obligatory,
taken seriously
Ø
Certain kinds of behavior cannot be tolerated
with regard to chastity
Ø
People of God have faith and trust in us, if one
says that the vows are not important then for that person the light of Gospel
is also not important
Ø
We are called to establish trust between
ourselves and the people we are committed to serve
Ø
Sexual relationships involve a series of
decisions and cannot be judged as it they were moments of human weakness.
Ø
We need to dialogue and speak to friars who have
problems in sexual areas
Ø
Ask them to discontinue a improper relationship
Ø
Don’t treat to save the vow but treat the truth
of abuse or relationship
Ø
If the improper sexual conduct involves a minor
the province has the obligation, in justice, to inform the victim’s parents and
provide necessary psychological and spiritual support
Ø
If a formator in authority involved in an
improper relationship with a formee of initial formation, treat this as abuse
of a minor, since it involves an abuse of authority. Friar must be removed from
formation house.
