Foto: Waiting for the function to begin.

By a formal letter of Br. General Minister, Malawi mission was entrusted to the undivided St. Joseph Province on January 13, 1987. The first batch of missionaries in the persons of Brs. Hugoline Mathews, Abel and Francis Paliekara arrived in Malawi in 1988
Capuchin Mission MalawiThen they moved to Mikoke, an outstation of Nsipe, where our first friary was built in 1989.Mikoke was constituted an independent parish with 14 outstations and it has now a catholic population of more than 10,000. We also built our minor seminary which started functioning in 1998. The foundation at Lilongwe (Area 49), became the second foundation of the Indian Capuchins in Malawi. When the Province was bifurcated Malawi Mission was entrusted to St. Thomas Province.

Bishop J. Zusa of the diocese of Mzuzu invited the capuchins to work in his diocese. Br. John Kolenchery was sent to Mzuzu to find a suitable place for a capuchin foundation. After the purchase of the land in March 2003 Brs. John Kolenchery and Davis Thottappilly, staying at the Cathedral Church, started to build the ashram. And the ashram was solemnly blessed on the feast day of Padre Pio, 23 September 2003 by His Excellency Bishop J. Zusa of the diocese of Mzuzu in the presence of Br. Provincial. In view of improving quality and quantity in vocation in Malawi Mission we have opened a Theology House at Zomba. On 22nd July 2011 our seminary boarding house at Gulliver was blessed by Br. Raphie Paliakara.
